Lyle F. Wohlers Scholarship Fund

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Applicant may be a regular member of the ACSPP
  • Applicant may be the spouse of a regular member of the ACSPP
  • Applicant may be the legal dependent child of a regular member of the ACSPP
    • A legal dependent child is defined as one between the ages of 17-23
  • A regular member must be in good standing with the ACSPP in order for member, spouse or dependent child to be eligible
    • An ACSPP member in good standing is one whose dues are not in arrears
    • An ACSPP member must have been a member for at least 12 months

 

  • Legal dependent children must be a full-time student (12 credit hours per semester)
  • Legal dependent children must obtain a Bachelor’s degree within six (6) years of their first enrollment in a college
    • Legal dependent children will have three (3) years after their first enrollment to obtain an Associate’s degree or complete trade school
  • Applicants must be pursuing a criminal justice degree
    • Criminal justice majors are preferred; criminal justice minors will be considered

 

  • Members and their spouses may either be full-time or part-time students
  • Members and their spouses attending school full-time will have six (6) years after their first enrollment to obtain a Bachelor’s degree
    • Members and their spouses will have three (3) years after their first enrollment to obtain an Associate’s degree or complete trade school
  • Members and their spouses attending school part-time will have eight (8) years after their first enrollment to obtain their degree or complete trade school
  • Part-time students must take at least six (6) credit hours per semester
  • Applicants must be pursuing a criminal justice degree
    • Criminal justice majors are preferred; criminal justice minors will be considered

 

  • All scholarships shall be awarded in one-year increments
    • Eligibility for any subsequent scholarships must be determined each year through reapplication and review by the Foundation Board of Trustees
  • Applicants who apply and are re-awarded for continued scholarship assistance shall be awarded:
    • For no longer than six (6) years for full-time studies
    • For no longer than eight (8) years for part-time studies

 

  • All scholarship awards shall be sent directly to the educational institution of the recipient’s choice to be applied against the cost of tuition
  • Funding for this scholarship shall not exceed the current rate for in-state tuition for students in Colorado attending colleges, universities and/or trade schools

 

Applicant Responsibilities

PLEASE NOTE:  APPLICANT RESPONSIBILITIES HAVE BEEN UPDATED FROM PREVIOUS YEARS.  IT IS THE APPLICANT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO READ THROUGH THE BELOW INFORMATION AND ADHERE TO ALL REQUIREMENTS.

Scholarship applications must be EMAILED to Katie@cspff.net, no later than 3:00pm MST on Friday, March 31, 2017.

  • Late applications will not be accepted
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted
  • Partial applications will not be accepted
  • Each component of the application packet must be type-written
    • Handwritten applications will not be accepted
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure their application packet was received by CSPFF

 

Please include the following items in your application packet.

  • 2017 scholarship application form
  • Proof of completion of eight (8) community service hours
    • Community service hours must be completed with a non-profit organization
    • Community service is defined as voluntary work, intended to be for the common good
    • Community service hours must be completed for CSPFF scholarship purposes
      • Hours completed for another organization will not be accepted
    • Community service hours must be completed with an organization the applicant has NOT volunteered with in the past
    • Community service hours must be completed between January 1 – March 31, 2017
    • Proof of completion must be on non-profit organization’s letterhead
    • Proof of completion must have an original signature from authorized personnel
    • Proof of completion letter may be scanned in order to be included in your application packet
  • Digital copy of your personal essay (e.g. Microsoft Word or Apple Pages)
    • PDF copies will not be accepted
    • 2017 essay topic: After the applicant has completed eight (8) community service hours with a non-profit organization, they must then write an essay detailing their experience.
      • Essay shall include a brief description of the non-profit organization the applicant volunteered with
      • Essay shall include how the applicant’s community benefited from their time with the non-profit organization
      • Essay shall include what the applicant learned from their community service and how the experience impacted the applicant personally
    • Essay must be a minimum of one thousand (1,000) words
  • If graduating high school this year, a copy of the applicant’s acceptance letter into their respective college
  • Copy of the applicant’s current official academic transcript
    • Applicants must currently have a 2.5 GPA or higher
    • Official academic transcripts may be mailed from the applicant’s school to CSPFF:

  • Official academic transcripts may be emailed from the applicant’s school to CSPFF
    • The emailed academic transcript should be sent to Katie@cspff.net
    • The emailed academic transcript must be sent by the school, not the applicant
  • Although official academic transcripts will be mailed/emailed from the applicant’s school and submitted separately from the applicant’s application packet, CSPFF must receive transcripts by the application deadline
  • Copy of the applicant’s Fall 2017 academic class schedule
    • If the applicant has not yet registered for Fall 2017 classes, applicant is asked to please inform the Scholarship Coordinator of this when submitting their application packet
    • If the applicant is selected to receive a scholarship and a copy of their Fall 2017 class schedule is not submitted to CSPFF by August 31, 2017, the applicant will forfeit their scholarship award

 

Scholarship Selection Process

  • Application packets are judged solely on the content of the application and supporting documents that are submitted by the applicant
  • Applicants’ names are removed from application packets and assigned an ID number
  • The Foundation Board of Trustees reviews all blind application packets as presented and selects winners based on the caliber and content of the material
    • Includes judging the quality and content of the personal essay
    • Degree of academic achievements
    • Applicants’ adherence to the requirements
  • Recipients of the Lyle F. Wohlers Scholarship will be awarded an amount up to $5,000
