MISSION

The mission of the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation is to support public safety employees, their families, and organizations by providing support and resources. Through the efforts of committed leadership, partnerships and staff, we work to ease the times of unexpected hardship, supporting seriously injured or fallen officers and their families, furthering their higher education, engaging and developing new programs to support and recognize these employees’ commitment to public safety, and by providing the general public with information, education, technology and other means necessary to promote a safer transportation system within which we all operate.

WHO WE ARE

Over four decades ago, the original mission of the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation (CSPFF) was to assist any dependents (children and widows) of Colorado State Troopers killed in the line of duty, with their higher education pursuits. CSPFF was very passionate about and committed to supporting their educational efforts. However, Colorado later passed legislation mandating the State cover those expenses. While CSPFF still maintains a Fallen Officer Fund, the Foundation has expanded services and now provides other types of support to Colorado State Patrol (CSP) members and their families.

To uphold the tradition of honoring fallen officers, through the 10-78 Fund, the Foundation donates money to the family of any law enforcement officer who is killed in the line of duty in the State of Colorado, as well as the family of any State Trooper who is killed in the line of duty in the United States.

As a benefit for members of the CSPA - Colorado State Patrol Association (formerly known as the Association of Colorado State Patrol Professionals), the Foundation established an annual scholarship program to assist with continuing education pursuits. Scholarship funds are available to CSPA members in good standing, their dependents and their spouses who are pursuing a higher education degree.

Originally, the Hardship Fund was created to assist members of the CSPA who find themselves in a financial situation beyond their control and are in need of assistance.  However, through the tremendous generosity of others, the Hardship Fund was able to expand beyond helping only association members, thus allowing all CSP members and their families to now apply for a hardship grant.

In keeping with the mission of the CSP, the Foundation expanded its scope of service to include a variety of defensive driving programs available to the general public.  Offered statewide, Alive at 25 is a nationally recognized, award winning defensive driving program for young drivers ages 15-24.  The Foundation offers five other defensive driving courses, in addition to Alive at 25.

Lastly, the Foundation is working tirelessly to provide emotional support and resources to Colorado State Troopers and their families.  We recognize that the law enforcement profession is difficult right now, for officers and their families alike.  With that in mind, the Foundation partnered with CSP’s Wellness Department to host seminars led by experts in member well-being, cumulative trauma, financial planning, spousal/family support, etc.  In 2022, the Foundation was able to provide $40,000 for cutting-edge mental health therapies to sworn and non-sworn CSP members, for which many Troopers described as “life-changing”.

The Foundation Board of Trustees deeply thanks those who support our organization; your kind contributions make it possible to maintain the live-saving programs and initiatives we strive to provide for the brave men and women who protect our beautiful state.
